Can ChatGPT Post to Facebook? What Works in 2026

By , Editor ·

Facts checked on October 17, 2026

The ChatGPT mark and the Facebook mark. The dotted line straight from one to the other is crossed out, and the line through a connected tool between them is ticked.

Not by itself. OpenAI’s connected-apps page links setup pages for nine services, and Facebook is not one of them. What works is a tool connected to ChatGPT that holds your permission to post and publishes for you. It has to post to a Facebook Page: Facebook lets outside tools post to Pages, not to personal profiles or groups.

What works: a tool between ChatGPT and Facebook#

It takes two connections. First you connect your Facebook Page to the tool: Facebook shows its own window and asks whether the tool may post for you. Then you connect ChatGPT to the tool. After that you ask in the chat, ChatGPT passes the text, the Page and the time to the tool, and the tool posts it through Facebook’s official connection (its API).

OpenAI documents two ways to add a tool to ChatGPT: an app from ChatGPT’s plugin directory, or a custom connector you add yourself. The custom kind uses MCP, the standard way Claude and ChatGPT plug into other apps. OpenAI says its own built-in apps “are search-only today and do not support write actions”, so anything that posts for you comes in through a connector.

Postnavo is built for this route. At launch its ChatGPT connector will take the text, the Page and the time from your chat, and the post will wait in your Postnavo calendar until then. See the ChatGPT page.

The Facebook rules that hold for any tool#

These come from Meta’s documentation for app makers and from Facebook Help. They apply whichever tool you pick.

Pages yes, personal profiles and groups no#

Where the post goes Can a connected tool post there?
A Facebook Page Yes. The post appears as the Page
Your personal profile No
A group No

For a personal profile, Meta’s reference lets a tool read the posts and nothing more: of creating one, it says “You can’t perform this operation.” For groups, Meta removed the permission that tools used to post there on April 22, 2024.

To post through a tool, you need a Page.

Who can connect the Page#

Meta’s guide for posting tools says the person who connects the Page must be able to create content on it, and to manage and moderate it as well. If someone else runs the Page, ask them for that access before you connect it, and keep it: the person who connected the Page must still have it when each post goes out.

Postnavo is launching with Facebook scheduling for Pages, each Page as its own channel.

What a tool can publish to a Page#

Post type Can a tool post it?
Text Yes
Link Yes. A tool can change the link’s preview picture only for a link the Page owns
Photo Yes
Video Yes
Reel Yes, 3 to 90 seconds, and at most 30 Reels from tools in any 24 hours

Every post needs either text or a link. A tool can edit only the posts it made itself, so a post you wrote in the Facebook app stays out of its reach.

Scheduling: Facebook can hold the post#

Unlike LinkedIn, Facebook lets a tool hand over a Page post with a time, and Facebook itself publishes it then. Meta’s pages disagree on how far ahead: the Page post reference says 10 minutes to 75 days, and the Pages guide says 10 minutes to 30 days. A scheduling tool can also keep the post itself and send it when the time comes.

Facebook’s own scheduler in Meta Business Suite takes a Page post from 20 minutes to 29 days ahead. For every network’s window, see how far ahead each network lets you schedule.

Which ChatGPT plans can connect a tool that posts#

An app from the plugin directory. OpenAI’s plugins page says that installing one “depends on your plan, workspace, role, region, and its included capabilities.”

A custom connector that can post. OpenAI’s help article on custom connectors says connectors that can post or change things “are available for ChatGPT Business and Enterprise/Edu customers on ChatGPT web.” On Pro they can only read. On a Business plan, only the workspace’s admins and owners can add one. It works on the web, not in the phone app, and the article does not mention Plus, Go or Free.

If your plan cannot post through ChatGPT, write the draft there and schedule it by hand in Meta Business Suite. Postnavo is launching with a calendar and a composer, and with Navo, its built-in agent, which needs no ChatGPT subscription.

What does not work#

  • ChatGPT alone. No Facebook connection is documented, so a plain chat can write the post and nothing more.
  • A bot or browser extension that clicks around facebook.com. Facebook’s Terms say: “You may not access or collect data from our Products using automated means (without our prior permission)”. A tool you allowed in Facebook’s own permission window is the route Meta offers.
  • ChatGPT’s cloud browser. OpenAI says it can work on “supported public and signed-in websites”, that “Some websites use security measures that restrict access from automated browser agents”, and advises: “Prefer a connected app or plugin when it supports the task directly.” Whether it can post on facebook.com is not documented.
  • Pasting your Facebook password into a chat. OpenAI’s own advice: “Never paste passwords, security codes, or payment details into the conversation.”

Keep a person approving#

A Page post speaks for your business, so read it before it goes out.

For custom connectors, OpenAI’s documentation says ChatGPT asks you to confirm by default before it posts or changes anything, and tells you to check carefully what is about to be sent. ChatGPT also lets you approve a tool once for the rest of a conversation. OpenAI says to do that only for a tool you trust. Leave the confirmation on.

Postnavo is launching with an approval setting of its own. When it is on, a post an agent creates will wait in Postnavo for your OK, whatever you allowed in ChatGPT. See approvals, and an approval checklist for AI-drafted posts.

FAQ#

Can ChatGPT post to my personal Facebook profile?#

Not through any tool. Meta lets tools read a personal profile’s posts but not create them. ChatGPT can write the post, and you paste it into Facebook yourself. For Instagram’s rule, see Can ChatGPT post to Instagram?

Can ChatGPT post to a Facebook group?#

No. Meta removed the permission tools used to post to groups on April 22, 2024.

Does ChatGPT need my Facebook password?#

Not with a connected tool. You approve the tool in Facebook’s own window, and the tool gets permission to post to the Page, not your password.

Do I need a paid ChatGPT plan?#

It depends on how the tool connects. For a custom connector that can post, OpenAI names Business, Enterprise and Edu. For an app from the directory, OpenAI gives no plan-by-plan answer.

Can ChatGPT schedule a Facebook post for later?#

Through a tool, yes: Facebook accepts a Page post with a time and publishes it then. Without a tool, paste the draft into Meta Business Suite and schedule it there. For LinkedIn, which works differently, see Can ChatGPT post to LinkedIn?
