Account and access A Threads profile grants the app threads_basic and threads_content_publish. Long-lived tokens are valid for 60 days and can be refreshed.5

Text attachment A text-only post can carry an attachment of up to 10,000 characters, with bold, italic, highlight, underline and strikethrough.3
Images, video, carousels Images are JPEG or PNG up to 8 MB. Video is MOV or MP4, up to 5 minutes and 1 GB. A carousel holds 2 to 20 images, videos or both.1
Links No more than 5 in a post, or the post fails. On a text-only post the first link becomes the preview card.1

Published limits 250 API-published posts and 1,000 replies for a profile in a moving 24 hours. A carousel counts as one post.2

What the Threads API lets a scheduler publish

Text, image, video and carousel posts, in two steps: the tool creates a media container, then publishes it. Meta recommends waiting about 30 seconds between the two, and it downloads every image and video from a public URL, so the file has to be reachable at that moment.

A text-only post can also carry a poll of 2 to 4 options (1 to 25 characters each), a GIF from GIPHY, a link preview and one topic tag of up to 50 characters. Polls, GIFs and link previews do not work on image, video or carousel posts.

What the scheduler has to do itself

The create call lists no publish-time field, and Meta’s documentation tells apps that let people schedule to enforce the 250-post limit themselves. A profile’s current use is read from the threads_publishing_limit endpoint.

Permission granted by a public profile is valid for 90 days and is extended each time the token is refreshed. A private profile’s grant cannot be extended and has to be given again.

Multi-post threads are replies

A thread of several posts is built with replies: the create call takes a reply_to_id, the post being answered. Replies are counted apart from posts, up to 1,000 for a profile in 24 hours.

Can I cross-post from X to Threads?

At launch, Postnavo will let you write once and adjust the Threads version before scheduling. The two differ: Threads allows 500 characters to X’s 280, and no more than 5 links in a post.
