Can ChatGPT Post to LinkedIn? What Works in 2026
Facts checked between October 13 and October 17, 2026
Not by itself. OpenAI’s connected-apps page links setup pages for nine services, and LinkedIn is not one of them. What works is a tool connected to ChatGPT that holds your permission to post on LinkedIn and publishes for you, such as a scheduler you add to ChatGPT. Unlike Instagram, LinkedIn lets such a tool post to a personal profile as well as a company page.
What works: a tool between ChatGPT and LinkedIn#
It takes two connections. First you connect LinkedIn to the tool: LinkedIn shows its own screen and asks whether the tool may post for you. Then you connect ChatGPT to the tool. After that you ask in the chat, ChatGPT passes the text and the time to the tool, and the tool posts it on LinkedIn.
OpenAI documents two ways to add a tool to ChatGPT: an app from ChatGPT’s plugin directory, or a custom connection you add yourself. The custom kind uses MCP, which is the standard way ChatGPT and Claude plug into other apps. OpenAI notes that its own built-in apps can only look things up, and points to custom connections for anything that posts or changes something.
Postnavo is built for this route. At launch its ChatGPT connection will take the text, the accounts and the time from your chat, and the post will wait in your Postnavo calendar until then. See the ChatGPT page.
The LinkedIn rules that hold for any tool#
These come from LinkedIn’s documentation for app makers and from LinkedIn Help. They apply whatever tool you pick.
Personal profile or company page#
LinkedIn’s rules for posting tools ask for a separate permission for each.
| Where the post goes | What you allow the tool to do | Who can allow it |
|---|---|---|
| Your personal profile | Post as you | You |
| A company page | Post as the page | A member who is an administrator, a content admin or a direct sponsored content poster of that page |
So a personal profile works, and a company page works only when the person who connects it holds one of those three roles. Postnavo is launching with LinkedIn scheduling for both, each as its own channel.
What a tool can publish#
| Post type | Can a tool post it, unpaid? |
|---|---|
| Text only | Yes |
| One or several images | Yes |
| Video | Yes |
| Document | Yes |
| Link | Yes. The tool sets the title, the description and the picture |
| Poll | Yes |
| Carousel | No. LinkedIn allows carousels from tools only in paid ads |
Two details matter for a post written in a chat.
Link previews. LinkedIn does not fetch the preview card for a link that a tool posts. The tool has to build it. If a link post goes out without its picture and title, look at the tool, not at LinkedIn.
Scheduling. LinkedIn gives tools no way to schedule: a post a tool sends goes live at once. So a tool that offers scheduling keeps your post itself and sends it at the time you chose.
LinkedIn Help gives the length: a post holds up to 3,000 characters.
How long the connection lasts#
LinkedIn’s documentation says the permission you give a tool lasts 60 days by default. Tools from approved LinkedIn partners can renew it for up to a year, and after that you approve the tool again. LinkedIn can also cancel the permission at any time.
So expect to reconnect LinkedIn once a year at best, and every 60 days with some tools. A post scheduled for after the connection runs out cannot go out until you reconnect.
Documented limits#
A request is one message a tool sends to LinkedIn.
| Limit | What LinkedIn documents |
|---|---|
| Requests from tools | Counted per day and reset at midnight UTC. “Standard rate limits are not published in documentation.” |
| Requests that post as a member | 150 a day per member, and 100,000 a day per tool across all its users |
| Posts per member or page | “we may limit how many posts a member or a LinkedIn Page can make in a certain time period”. The number is not given |
The 150 counts requests, not posts. A post with an image takes three: one to register the image, one to upload it, one to create the post.
Which ChatGPT plans can connect a tool that posts#
An app from the plugin directory. OpenAI’s plugins page says that installing one “depends on your plan, workspace, role, region, and its included capabilities.”
A custom connection that can post. OpenAI’s help article on custom connections says that only Business, Enterprise and Edu plans get connections that can post or change things. On Pro they can only read. It works on the web only, not in the phone app. The article does not mention Plus, Go or Free.
If your plan cannot post through ChatGPT, write the draft there and schedule it by hand. LinkedIn’s own scheduler takes a profile post from 10 minutes to 3 months ahead. Postnavo is launching with a calendar and a composer, and with Navo, its built-in agent, which needs no ChatGPT subscription.
What does not work#
- ChatGPT alone. No LinkedIn connection is documented, so a plain chat can write the post and nothing more.
- A browser extension or bot that clicks around linkedin.com. LinkedIn Help says “we don’t allow the use of third-party software or browser extensions that scrape, modify the appearance of, or automate activity on LinkedIn’s website.” It describes accounts being restricted for this. The rule is about the website. A tool you have allowed to post, on LinkedIn’s own permission screen, is the route LinkedIn offers.
- ChatGPT’s cloud browser. OpenAI says it can work on “supported public and signed-in websites”, that “Some websites use security measures that restrict access from automated browser agents”, and advises: “Prefer a connected app or plugin when it supports the task directly.” Whether it can post on linkedin.com is not documented, and LinkedIn’s rule above applies either way.
- Posting in bulk. LinkedIn Help says that if it detects “excessive post creation that indicates inauthentic activity, or the use of an automation tool, we may limit the visibility of those posts.”
Keep a person approving#
A LinkedIn post carries your name or your company’s. Read it before it goes out.
For custom connections, OpenAI’s documentation says ChatGPT asks you to confirm by default before it posts or changes anything, and tells you to check carefully what is about to be sent. Leave that confirmation on.
Postnavo is launching with an approval setting of its own. When it is on, a post an agent creates will wait in Postnavo for your OK, whatever you allowed in ChatGPT. See approvals, and an approval checklist for AI-drafted posts.
FAQ#
Can ChatGPT post to my personal LinkedIn profile?#
Through a connected tool, yes. LinkedIn lets a tool post “on behalf of” a member who allowed it. That is one difference from Instagram, which lets tools post only for business and creator accounts. See Can ChatGPT post to Instagram?
Does ChatGPT need my LinkedIn password?#
Not with a connected tool. You approve the tool on LinkedIn’s own screen, and the tool gets permission to post, not your password. Never paste a password into a chat.
Do I need a paid ChatGPT plan?#
It depends on how the tool connects. For a custom connection that can post, OpenAI names Business, Enterprise and Edu. For an app from the directory, OpenAI gives no plan-by-plan answer.
Can ChatGPT schedule a LinkedIn post for later?#
Only through a tool that holds the post until the time comes, because LinkedIn gives tools no way to schedule. Without a tool, paste the draft into LinkedIn’s own scheduler.
